At Byron Bay Gyrocopters, we offer training programs tailored to different levels of experience. Whether you’re starting from scratch, converting from another aircraft type, or looking to refine your skills, we’ve got the perfect program for you.
1. New Pilots (Ab-Initio Training – From Scratch)
If you’re new to flying, our structured training follows the official ASRA (Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association) syllabus, guiding you step by step toward earning your ASRA Pilot Certificate—a must for flying Gyrocopters in Australia.
📌 Minimum training requirements:
- 15 hours of dual flight training with an instructor
- 5 hours of solo flying
- A couple of multiple-choice written exams to complete your certification
2. Converting Fixed-Wing & Helicopter Pilots
If you’re already a fixed-wing or helicopter pilot, transitioning to Gyrocopters is faster and more efficient. ASRA recognizes many existing pilot endorsements, reducing training time significantly.
📌 Minimum training requirements:
- 5 hours of Gyrocopter training
- Completion of the required written exams
Your previous flight experience will be fully considered, ensuring a smooth and effective conversion to Gyrocopter flying.
